Y.E.S (Youth Employment Services)
Y.E.S. targets Club Members who are most in need of academic support and career development. Through Y.E.S., all enrolled teens are introduced to the skills and traits that will increase their employability. In job readiness activities, Club Members progress through employability skills training, moving them step-by-step, through job preparation, job seeking and the job attainment process. Key areas of focus include:
- Positive Attitude and Behaviors
- Interpersonal Skills
- Daily Living/Personal Management
- Decision Making
- Reading for Comprehension
- Writing to Communicate Information
- Computational Math
- Basic Computer/Technology
In addition to workforce skills training, teens do career exploration, which supports them in setting, pursuing and realizing their career goals.
Junior Staff was formed to help develop a qualified, competent and committed work force needed to fulfill the mission of the Boys & Girls Club Movement. The program provides teens with age appropriate skill building opportunities and hands-on Club work experience in four areas:
- Career development
- Customer service
- Community service
Junior Staff is open to Club members between 13 and 18 years of age.
Launched in 2011, Teen Night provides our teens with the opportunity to remain engaged in the Club through events planned in part by their peers. Two Staff members are selected for each event and they work with their teens to help them brainstorm ideas for the next Teen Night. This ensures that our teens are actively involved in the planning process, allowing for greater development of leadership and decision making skills while keeping all activities interesting for their age group. The first Teen Night of the fall semester was “Skate Night” where teens met at United Skates of America to enjoy a private party with $5 unlimited pizza, soda and endless skating.
An interactive website designed to provide our teens with a safe, positive place they can spend time online. Delivered in a teen-friendly format, the website provides teenagers with access to information to help them lead productive lives by educating them about career and education opportunities, healthy living, finances and much more.
