Glenn Permuy’s Boys & Girls Club story began more than 60 years ago, not in a boardroom or at a podium, but as a curious first grader walking into the West Tampa Boys Club. His father, Frank Permuy Sr., was a part-time staff member. His older brother, Frank Jr., was already a Club kid. That moment as a young boy tagging alongside his brother after school sparked what would become a powerful, decades-long calling to serve.

From that very first visit, Glenn found more than just a place to play. He found purpose. As a proud Club alumnus, he returned to serve the same organization that shaped him; working his way from Club to staff member and ultimately leading as President and Chief Operating Officer of the Boys & Girls Clubs of Tampa Bay for more than 20 years. Under his leadership, the organization expanded from just three locations to sixteen, extending its reach to thousands of kids and families across the region. Glenn’s belief was simple but profound: every young person deserves a safe place to belong, a mentor who believes in them, and an opportunity to grow. And he built a legacy around that belief.
In 1997, his heart for service and deep operational insight brought him to the national organization. As Senior Vice President of Services to Clubs for Boys & Girls Clubs of America, Glenn helped shape the future of the Movement for the next twelve years. He led national staff, fostered military partnerships, helped to open new Clubs in communities around the world, and championed systems to measure impact and elevate leadership development. Thanks to his vision, Club professionals across the country now benefit from training partnerships with institutions like Clemson University and the University of Michigan’s Ross School of Business.

Glenn’s impact has been recognized with BGCA’s highest honors, including the Jeremiah Milbank Service Award and the Thomas G. Garth Character & Courage Award. In 2009, BGCA created the Permuy Excellence Award, a national honor presented each year to a Club professional who exemplifies the leadership, compassion, and commitment that Glenn brought to the Movement every single day.
Today, he continues to give while serving as President of the Boys & Girls Clubs of Greater Tampa Bay Foundation and consulting through The Permuy Group. But more than titles or accolades, Glenn’s legacy lives in the lives he’s touched: the young people who found confidence because he believed in them, the Club leaders he mentored, and the communities he helped strengthen.
From West Tampa to Washington, D.C., from military bases to local neighborhoods, Glenn Permuy has lived a life of unwavering dedication to young people. His story is a reminder that when you invest in one child, you change a life. When you invest in generations, you change the world.
