The BGC Great Futures Scholarship is made possible by the Florida Prepaid College Foundation’s Project STARS Program.

Established in 1990, the Stanley Tate Project STARS (Scholarship Tuition for At-Risk Students) Program is the Foundation’s largest program. Project STARS is a private-to-public scholarship program funded annually by the Florida Legislature and matched dollar-for-dollar by private donations. Participating organizations purchase Prepaid Plans and provide additional support through mentoring to help students reach their goals.

The program focuses efforts on low-income students who are at a higher risk of dropping out of school and prepares them to attend and succeed in college. All STARS scholars are assigned a mentor to guide them through their journey to higher education.

Effective October 18, 2023, Boys & Girls Clubs of the Suncoast (BGCS), now a part of Boys & Girls Clubs of Greater Tampa Bay, a leading youth service organization in Pinellas County, merged with Earn to Learn FL (ETLFL), an education program that combines personal finance training with scholarship opportunities. This allows BGCS to serve as a bridge from high school graduation to young adults up to 24 years of age.

With a focus on educational success and life skill development, the Earn to Learn FL model, now Great Futures Scholarships, will remain intact and provide its core program components to Boys & Girls Clubs members.
